Summary
Everything in the universe is composed of matter which in turn consists of subatomic particles. When the Big Bang occurred billions of years ago, equal amounts of matter and anti-matter were created. Anti-matter consists of anti-particles in the same way that matter is composed of particles. According to Dr. Tara Shears from the University of Liverpool, the concept of anti-matter was first predicted by a British scientist Paul Dirac. The collision between matter and anti-matter causes a release of an enormous amount of energy and this resulted in some matter being left over just after the Big Bang. The reason for the disappearance of anti-matter remains the biggest mystery of science till date. The process known as CP violation is being studied upon with the help of an experiment involving thousands of scientists from all across the globe.
