Summary
The hotel rooms are about to get a 21st century facelift. Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute in Duisburg, Germany have built a hotel room of the future to show how hotels can use new technology to make rooms more customer friendly.
There are no straight lines or hard edges in this room. Everything has a curved edge because research has shown that people relax best with circular shapes. If guests are displeased with the traditional white light emanating from the ceiling, they can change it to a different color – all the colors of the rainbow are available to them.
The room will be interactive, and accept simple verbal commands, such as a request to know the menu of the day. The energy bed rocks its inhabitant to sleep. Sensors in the floor of the bathroom turn on lights automatically. Infrared rays warm one’s back. And while relaxing in the tub, one can watch TV as well.
