Summary
In the field of quantum mechanics, various theories exist in order to explain the atomic structure. The Rutherford model suggests that an atom consists of negatively charged electrons rotating around a positively charged nucleus. Physicist Neal Bohr further refined the model by stating that electrons rotate around the nucleus in certain very well defined orbits or fixed orbits. Different theories also exist over the nature of electrons that comprise an atom. Erwin Schrödinger suggested that electrons are essentially waves while the Bohr- Heisenberg model suggested that electrons are tiny particles.
