Summary
On March 5, 2009, the Transition, a car that could fly, made its first test flight, and spent 37 seconds in the air. Boston, MA firm Terrafugia’s goal is to create an automobile that you can fly to your local airport, then drive straight from the runway to your driveway. The Transition runs on regular gas, and can travel up to 500 miles on a single tank. The craft’s wings fold or unfold in only a few seconds.
The test pilots commented that the flight was remarkable for being unremarkable. Stability is always a question on your first flight, but the test pilot had no difficulty with stability, or in handling the controls themselves.
The craft will sell for just under $200,000, and is expected to go on sale in 2010.
